Glossary of Commonly Used Terms and Abbreviations

When you are diagnosed with Arthritis, you will be bombarded with all sorts of new terms. Apart from the expected medical terms, abbreviations and acronyms, many people in the Arthritis community use abbreviations for common aspects of the disease or its treatments. Afterall, when your hands are hurting, you don't want to type or write lots of long words. And while these terms will become familiar and second nature over time, it can seem like you are dealing with a foreign language initially.
This section provides a definition or brief explanation for the terms, abbreviations and acconyms that you are likely to come across in Arthritis related articles and discussions as well as some of those used in Chat Rooms and Message Boards. If you find one that isn't explained here, let us know and we will look into adding it.
