Support

A young boy with arthritis receives support and encouragement on a juvenile arthritis camp

Kids and teenagers often do well when they have good support from their family, friends, health professionals, teachers and other organisations. The result of not having good support is that a child (and family) may feel alone, isolated and uncertain of where to go for help. Being able to talk to other kids with similar problems can be quite enlightening for kids and teenagers with arthritis - they realise that they are not alone, and others are growing up with similar challenges to themselves. Camp Footloose - a yearly camp for kids and teenagers with arthritis organised by Arthritis New South Wales - is a fun and safe environment for them to get to know others with similar concerns, learn more about arthritis and participate in challenging and creative activities.

At camp no one judges you, and that is the best part - you are the same as the people around you and they understand how you feel, that's special.

There are many sources of support available to children and teenagers with arthritis, their families and health professionals and teachers. A number of these are listed on the Resources and Contact pages.
